Schneider Electric Partner with University of Sheffield for 15-20% energy savings
The University of Sheffield has entered into a £3.8 million strategic partnership agreement with energy and building management specialist Schneider Electric.
Believed to be the first of its kind in the UK education sector, the performance-based agreement is set to deliver up to £500,000 annual savings – £360,000 of which is guaranteed – and releases capital for investments that will lower energy consumption, slash the University’s carbon footprint, and deliver an enhanced working environment for staff and students.

On April 8, The Timberland Company announced it had reduced its greenhouse (GHG) gas emissions by 36% in 2009 over its 2006 baseline figures. Claiming it is not content with this decrease, Timberland, led by its CEO Jeff Swartz, stated that the outdoor footwear and apparel company will reach a 50% reduction by the end of this year.

Kenya Looks to Asian Investors to Build Out Geothermal, Takes Another $97M – NYTimes.com
The Kenyan government is building up its geothermal resources.
In February, it took in $1.3 billion from multinational banks for this purpose. And now it’s borrowing $97 million more from China’s Exim bank to build another 140-megawatt geothermal plant.
Kenya estimates that it’s capable of generating 7,000 megawatts of geothermal energy — 10 to 15 times the country’s total demand
If Kenya successfully pulls off its geothermal roadmap, it will become the dominant provider of geothermal power in Eastern Africa

GE Unveils New LED Bulb – 17 Year Life Span and $50 Price Tag
GE are bringing out an LED bulb that’ll replace incandescents, giving you 17 years worth of light from a $50 bulb.
So far, LED bulbs are much more expensive, and they haven’t made a big splash in the market because of this and a lack of warm lighting (though the colors and temperatures are getting much better across the board). But GE hopes they’ll be a game changer for LEDs.
