I couldn't agree more with you Tom. Once people discern the difference between Demand Response and Direct Load Control, there will be serious uproar. No VC-funded start up or industry solution thus far has truly focused on the needs of the consumer. Their value proposition remains, we'll make it easier for you to calculate your carbon footprint! Sounds like the take rate on that will flatten at around 10% of the populace. Hardly worth the billions of tax dollars to help Utilities improve their operational efficiency and pass along risk (dynamic price) to the consumer.

My start up is hoping that more people realize this fact and search for a truly user-centered direct-consumer product for Smart Grid HAN participation.
