Using ear tags to trace the origins of frozen ready meals, shoes and other by products of meat will be a challenge...!

True batch level traceability throughout the value chain is required to really understand the origins of products. The use of rfid and other similar technology is only a means of identifying whole items. Destructive and multi-ingredient production processes require good traceability record keeping to be in place around those processes. Its vital to record batches of input ingredient and relate them to the batches of output products. Without this understanding where the raw ingredients come from will be impossible.
