It is actually not a very new thing to go green with the conference bags, I would like to introduce you to Township Patterns and its unique activity of manufacturing high quality conference gifts and bags. The innovative business model that Township Patterns holds allows us to design and produce great, eco-friendly, authentically African products and at the same time bring opportunities, professionalism and economic development to women in disadvantaged communities of South Africa. We have been doing that since 1997 and can now boast a proven successful model that allows us to have a greater range of clients around the world.
Such as :
- World Vision (20,000 bags)
- The International Diabetes Federation (12,500 delegates)
- The International Congress of Actuaries (1,800 delegates)

If you would like to know more about our unique way of doing bags, you can contact me at any time or visit our web site.

[...] If you do not eliminate conference bags entirely, then ensure that they are made of post-consumer and/or sustainable materials. [...]

Down at SXSW we were appalled by the amount of sheer waste. While at the conference we posted this blog: http://makemesustainable.wordpress.com/2008/03/08/sxsw-sustainability/

Especially at one of the country's largest INTERACTIVE conference you'd imagine we could have come up with more innovative advertising methods then a million paper handouts.

Printed proceedings waste a lot of paper. I often wonder how many of those pages are ever actually seen by human eyes?

At last month's Emerging Technologies for the Enterprise (http://www.phillyemergingtech.com/) conference in Philadelphia the material that's usually printed was distributed to attendees on a 512 MB USB key which was attached to the badge lanyard.

This was more eco-friendly, easier to use, reusable, and one less thing that I had to carry around.
